When I first became vegan, I found tons of recipes for lunches and dinners that I loved to try. However, I could never find any snacks for between meals. I was missing my favorite snacks like goldfish, cheez its, and basically any cracker ever. I’d end up going hungry between meals and eat a ton at meals. This was fine, I guess, but definitely not satisfying. I enjoy eating small meals with snacks in between.

Through trial and error, I found snacks to supplement my cheesy crackers obsession. Slowly, I would find foods that I loved between meals, and I would be pleasantly surprised when I found some that I had no idea were vegan.

A little disclaimer here: these may not all be the healthiest snacks. This is specifically for those that are struggling with the transition to veganism. If you are looking for healthier snack options try this post by The Glowing Fridge. These snacks look amazing so check her out.

Without further ado, here are 30+ easy, vegan snacks.

Snacks

Super processed and unhealthy stuff (but so dang tasty):
  • Biscoff cookie butter
  • Oreos (some off-brand and/or specialty Oreos are not vegan; proceed with caution and enthusiasm)
  • Potato chips (both classic and barbecue; pay attention to different brands as they may differ slightly in ingredients)
  • Pillsbury chocolate fudge frosting
  • Starbursts
  • Simply Asia Sesame Teriyaki noodle bowl (when I crave Chinese, this is my go-to)

For more ideas, look at the accidentally vegan foods list Peta put together.

Not quite as unhealthy:
  • Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups (white chocolate and milk chocolate varieties are not vegan)
  • Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter
  • Ritz crackers
  • Wheat thins
  • Taco fries (this is one of my latest favorites. Find it in my latest meal plan post)
Healthier:
  • Go macro bar
  • Larabar
  • Luna bar (not all luna bars are vegan, so be careful as you pick them out)
  • Popcorn (use earth balance “butter” with salt and sugar for a kettle corn taste)
  • Nut butter (by the spoonful)
  • Hummus with tortilla chips
  • Energy balls
  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Granola
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa and chips
  • Avocado toast
  • Bruschetta with tomatoes
Super healthy:
  • Frozen grapes
  • Bananas (peel and freeze these for a nice popsicle in the summer)
  • Apples
  • Any fruit really
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Peanut butter on apples

Lists like these have saved me from caving, honestly. It’s hard to stick with a lifestyle like veganism even with all the benefits. Some foods become much easier to avoid the longer you stay away from them, but it’s always nice to know you can have a backup plan of vegan junk food in case of an emergency.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Energy Bites

These things are heavenly. If you need just a little boost of chocolate (believe me, I’m not judging. I can eat a tub of cookies in no time), this is your recipe. Obviously, these have been around a lot. There’s a reason. They’re so good and really easy to make.

Ingredients:
  • 6 dates
  • Handful of oats
  • Handful of sunflower seeds
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • Peanut butter (optional)
Directions:
  1. Blend the dates in the food processor.
  2. Once chopped, add the rest of the ingredients until it sticks together.
  3. If the mixture needs to be stickier, add some peanut butter.
  4. Roll into balls, chill, and enjoy.
