“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist.” -Oscar Wilde
I think Oscar Wilde got this right. Most people — and I’m guilty of it too sometimes — just exist. They may want to change their life, but they don’t ever take the steps to change. I personally don’t want to be a shell of a person, not living up to my full potential, and I don’t think you do either.
This blog is designed to help you choose to start living. The idea came about after I took a trip to Costa Rica and had a paradigm shift about living. Their country motto is “Pura Vida,” which means pure life. I saw the effects of this motto all over the country on my short visit.
I saw Pura Vida in a man who left everything to teach surfing at a beach in Jaco. I saw Pura Vida in the family that lived off their land in Quepos and had what they needed, but not more. I saw Pura Vida in the two hitchhikers who trusted in the good people of Costa Rica to get from one city to another.
Pura Vida means seizing the moment. It means expressing love and gratitude toward everyone. It means taking life by the bootstraps and becoming who you’ve always wanted to be.
I’ve always been interested in things like minimalism, environmentalism, and vegetarianism. That was always the life I’ve imagined my future as, but I wasn’t taking the steps to achieve those goals. I now choose to live life in a pure, real way. This blog is to archive my journey to the life I’ve always imagined and to give tips to readers like you as I discover them. I’m not an expert by any means on pure living, but I’m trying. I hope this blog will help you on your journey as well as mine. So dive in, start experimenting, and start living.
