How strong are you? Ignore your physical strength right now. I want to know about your inner strength.

How did you build that strength?

If there was ever a time to grow some tough skin, now would be it. There is so much negativity in the news. Important issues are being brought up, but all I can hear is angry voices and shouting over one another.

This Monday’s motivation comes from a quote by best-selling author, Karen Salmansohn.

“Strength grows in the moment you think you can’t go on, but you keep going anyway.”

I’ll be honest, I have a lot of these can’t-go-on moments. And, it’s not like they are a few major events to overcome. It feels like this is every day. Every day, I face the feeling that I’m an impostor. I face feelings of self-doubt and fear. Sometimes, it builds upon itself until all I want to do is curl under my blankets and watch Netflix until I forget about it.

But, every time I face the fears, I’m faced with an opportunity. I have the opportunity to choose whether I’ll fall to the pressure or stand against it.

That’s strength.

And, I’m willing to bet that you built your own inner strength through hardship. I know this because no one ever gets calluses from touching velvet. Calluses form after repeated pressure on an area of your skin that kills the skin and replaces it with a hard, protective surface. In other words, calluses only form from hardship.

All of these failures and fears you face each day are really just opportunities to grow. The more opportunities you have, the stronger you can become. I know it’s easy to give in to these fears. It sure would be convenient. And, oh so easy.

But in the end, do you want to be someone who gives up or steps up?

Today, and every day, choose to keep going. Push through the hard times. Remind yourself that you are strong. Because you ARE.
